“I love the people in these towns, and I would never cheat them.” Wow, what a line delivered.
Since I saw this movie for the first time a few days ago, this quote might be a couple of words off, but it's very close and has kept me in awe of this movie. Subtle and thought-provoking, I understood what it meant only during the credits, as I searched for the answer, recalling Buck Howard's face when saying these words, which led straight to the look on his face a couple of scenes before. What were those reactions I saw? Beautifully, as the credits rolled, I was able to figure out the character and why the movie ended as it did.
So, this Monday morning, as I wondered what Amazing Artist I would write about, I came up with this movie. And there is so much to love! First, it is rated PG and it is also not very long (about 1 ½ hours) - both very refreshing for a change. Second, so many artists made it great. (Editors, writers, director…all had to do a great job to pull off the length and story.) Who else made this movie great?
Actor, Emily Blunt - Her versatility impresses me more with every movie.
Actor, John Malkovich - “The Great Buck Howard”…right on target and, yes, so great in this film!
Actors, Colin Hanks & Tom Hanks - Perfect Father-Son combo. You want to watch them both.
Actor, Steve Zahn - Just loved…
Actor, Ricky Jay - Unobtrusively real.
I have to say that everyone working on this film must be a great artist. From Set to Wardrobe to Music to all I have already mentioned, it was a surprisingly entertaining movie without me ever giving it permission to be.
